A US vet, a pet, a dog and two cats are in emergency shelters after they were found dead in the woods on the banks of the Jordan River on Sunday, according to an Israeli newspaper.
The animals were found in a creek in the Negev Desert by an Israeli search and rescue team, and a helicopter picked them up and brought them to the Ne’eman medical center, the paper reported on Tuesday.
The bodies of the animals were being taken to a hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The Israel Air Force has been assisting Israeli authorities in the search for the three animals, the Times of Israel reported.
The Israeli Air Force was also searching for a third animal, the newspaper said, but could not immediately confirm the report.
The three dogs were rescued from the water by a helicopter and taken to the hospital, the Israel Defense Forces said on its Facebook page on Tuesday, citing a statement from the Neveh Sheva military hospital.
The dogs’ bodies were being kept at the Neve Shalom military hospital, according the statement.
The search and recovery operation is continuing.
