Video: What does it mean for consumers?
“It is a simple concept, said David Ritter, CEO of Optus Healthcare, a major health insurer in the US and Australia.
It’s a common one, he said, because it’s a cost-saving measure when you don’t have to.
Ritter said he’s not sure exactly how much people actually spend on a repair, but he said it’s not a big deal for people who have a lot of wear and tear.
He said it depends on how much wear and damage they’re dealing with, but the average person spends $10-$20 per repair.
If it’s minor, it’s probably $5-$7 per repair, Ritter said.”
We have an entire team of people who work on it, and we do not charge a fee,” Ritter added.
The average repair cost for a new smartphone is $150, according to research from Consumer Reports, and it can cost more if you have multiple repairs.
Ritters said a small number of consumers choose to pay for the repair, because they’re worried about paying for a replacement phone or trying to keep up with their phone payments.”
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to charge $20-$30 per repair,” Ritters added.”
But I also know that it’s very common to have a replacement in the future and want to keep that for as long as possible.
I know that we have a great customer service team.
“A new device?
A new smartphone isn’t the only thing to pay attention to when it comes to repairs.
A new smartphone might mean you’re paying more than you should, according the Consumer Reports study.
It also means your smartphone may be getting old.”
If your phone is a new model or model year, then the next thing to think about is, if you need to pay a $500 deductible, should you?” said Caryn Davenport, consumer technology analyst for Consumer Reports.
Consumers need to be aware that they can be charged higher premiums for a repair than a replacement, said Davenports.RITTER says people should also pay attention when they buy a new device.”
Consumer Reports has been tracking smartphone repairs for more than 10 years, but it’s the first time it’s analyzed repairs for multiple models.”
And the next item to pay close attention to is whether you need the warranty coverage to keep the device.”
Consumer Reports has been tracking smartphone repairs for more than 10 years, but it’s the first time it’s analyzed repairs for multiple models.
The study asked consumers to rate how much they felt the repair cost, how much it would have cost them, and how much the repair would have saved them.
“The study shows the average cost of a repair is $100-$150, and most consumers are paying close to $200,” said Ritter.
“So this is an area where we’re not seeing much improvement, so I think that the average is a little bit higher than you might have thought.”
